There are three kinds offered: Infrared Heat Therapy, Moxibustion & Warming Herb Plasters
Heat therapy can help alleviate pain by increasing blood flow and relaxing muscles. Heat can soothe sore or tense muscles and relieve various types of discomfort, such as muscle strains, joint stiffness, and menstrual cramps.
About Infrared Heat Therapy
Infrared heat therapy uses infrared waves, specifically in the form of far-infrared (FIR) radiation, to penetrate the body's tissues at a deeper level. This allows the heat to be absorbed more effectively, providing therapeutic effects.
This therapy aims to provide various health benefits by promoting relaxation, improving circulation, and potentially enhancing detoxification. The heat generated by infrared therapy can help increase blood flow, relax muscles, and relieve tension. It may also support the body's natural detoxification processes by stimulating sweating and promoting the elimination of toxins through the skin.
Dr. Simons uses infrared heat therapy as a supplemental treatment with Acupuncture and Facial Microneedling.
About Moxibustion
Moxibustion is a traditional therapeutic technique commonly used in acupuncture and Oriental medicine. It involves the burning of dried mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) or moxa over specific acupuncture points or areas of the body.
There are two main types of moxibustion:
1. **Direct Moxibustion:** With direct moxibustion, a small piece of moxa, either in the form of a cone or a loose thread-like substance, is placed directly on top of an acupuncture point and ignited. The moxa burns slowly, producing a therapeutic heat that penetrates the skin and stimulates the acupuncture point.
2. **Indirect Moxibustion:** In indirect moxibustion, the moxa is not placed directly on the skin. Instead, it is burned above the skin, typically using a moxa stick or cigar-like roll. The heat generated by the moxa stick warms the area around the acupuncture point without coming into direct contact with the skin.
The purpose of moxibustion is to warm and invigorate the flow of Qi (energy) and blood in the body. By applying heat to specific points, moxibustion aims to strengthen the body's overall energy, stimulate circulation, relieve pain, and promote healing.
Moxibustion is commonly used to address a range of conditions, including musculoskeletal pain, digestive disorders, menstrual irregularities, and certain respiratory conditions. It is often used in conjunction with acupuncture, where acupuncture needles are inserted into specific points first, and then moxibustion is applied to those points.
About Warming Herb Plasters
Warming herb plasters, also known as herbal heat patches or poultices, are topical applications that contain a blend of warming herbs. These plasters are typically infused with herbs like ginger, cinnamon, turmeric, or various Chinese herbs known for their warming properties.
Warming herb plasters are commonly used for musculoskeletal pain, sports injuries, or conditions where localized warmth and increased circulation are desired. They can provide a soothing and comforting sensation to the affected area.
